Sweigert died in Annville Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, in July 1819, at the age of 85, and was buried in the Cemetery of the Quitaphohila Hill Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania.
He fought as a private in the 2nd Battalion, Pennsylvania Militia, in the Revolutionary War. Records seem to indicate that in the early days, members of the militia served for only 60 days at a time, going home between postings rather than wintering at locations such as Valley Forge.
