Greene was issued his Revolutionary War Pension, W.23132, on September 18, 1832 from the state of Rhode Island. According to the pension, he began his service August 1775 with Captain Job Peiner.
The following excerpts are from his pension application: “Next at the time of the general alarm which I believe was in December 1776, I went to Captain Greene. At the end of a month a draft took place and I was drafted and served under Captain Benedict Colvin as Sergeant in Col. Nathaniel Browns Regiment. I continued to do duty upon drafts. I never failed of doing duty but cannot tell exactly under what officers but mostly Captain Weaver and Captain Colvin aforesaid were mainly my Captains.” The last service mentioned in his pension states he served his last draft in September and October 1781. The DAR GRS lists Henry Greene’s service as follows: PVT., Capts Benjamin Green, Benedict Colvin, Samuel, Phillips, Also SGT., William Richmond, Nathaniel Brown.
Henry Greene was a descendant of John Greene who immigrated to Massachusetts in 1635 following Roger Williams to Rhode Island the next year. Henry was of the Quidnessett Greenes who settled this area of Rhode Island for two centuries. He was a cousin to the Revolutionary War hero, General Nathanael Greene.
