Mary Draper Chapter and the Nathan Futrell Descendants

Nathan Futrell is reputed to be the youngest drummer boy in the War of the Revolution, at the age of 7. He joined the North Carolina Continental Militia. The tenure of his duty was probably short lived because of his age, and because he was attached to a militia group.

The Futrell’s were among the earliest settlers of western Kentucky. In 1799, they homesteaded in Christian County, Kentucky. In 1820 they settled on 2,000 acres in Trigg County, Kentucky (near Golden Pond.) Nathan Futrell was a farmer, surveyor, election officer and a pioneer pomologist, having planted the first apple orchard in Trigg County.

The grandson of one of Nathan and Charity’s children was Junius Marion Futrell, governor of Arkansas from 1933 to 1937.
