John Gideon Bailey was born before 1744 in Newbury, Massachusetts.
He served during the Revolutionary War from April 1777 to May 1779 as a guard and a scout under Colonels Peter Olcott and Joseph Marsh. Bailey commanded a company of 780 troops.
He served with his cousin, General Jacob Bailey, and was used by him to send important messages.
Later, Bailey served again during the War of 1812. Bailey, along with 24 other men, including four other cousins, founded the town of Newbury, Vermont Bailey died in Newburt, Vermont, in 1817.
